Founded in 2007 by Sister Helen Santa Maria of the Sisters of Loretto, El Paso Villa Maria (a non-profit organization) empowers women experiencing homelessness on their journey toward self-sufficiency.
Our unique "hacienda-style" facility, offers a serene and comfortable living environment for 22 women.
At Villa Maria, each resident can enjoy the privacy and security of their own room and bathroom. We also offer shared access to a fully equipped kitchen, a peaceful patio, a chapel for spiritual reflection, a comfortable lounge room, a library for learning and leisure, a computer lab for digital access, a utility room for essential needs, and a laundry room.
Villa Maria goes beyond providing basic needs to all residents, offering daily nutritious meals, reliable transportation, and valuable counseling resources.
Villa Maria is a home where women who are homeless and whose children are not
with them can transition from crisis to self-sufficiency while living within a safe,
supportive, and spiritual community.
Villa Maria responds to the basic needs of women who are unhoused. First, they are welcomed into a
beautiful, safe, healing and loving environment that includes 22 private bedrooms/bath accommodations.
The women share a dining room, kitchen, laundry room, computer room, library, living room, chapel and an
enclosed patio. These residents receive all the necessities including healthy nourishing meals shared as a
community. Residents can live at Villa Maria for up to two years to ensure an adequate period of healing
and transition although the average length of stay is 12-14 months. The hope, love and hard work that
happens at Villa Maria leads to a successful transition.
From the day they are accepted into the shelter, they are provided with case management services to help
them identify and implement the goals they set that will ultimately lead them to self-sustainability. All
residents are required to participate in their case management. The case manager assists each woman
explore options for specialized counseling, education, job training and employment, medical care,
transportation, legal advocacy, available benefits, housing, and residency status if needed.
We are a place of healing where women can feel loved and valued as individuals; thereby regain their sense
of dignity and self-worth. Our shelter understands the importance of instilling hope in our residents and
inspiring them to overcome the crises that brought them to our door. Empowerment is key to our program.
The community can participate in our mission through a program led by a volunteer coordinator who
recruits and manages a dedicated corps of volunteers. These volunteers work hand in hand with the case
manager and staff to support residents as they pursue the goals they have identified on their path to
self-sufficiency.

Our team at El Paso Villa Maria is comprised of seven dedicated individuals, each playing a crucial role in supporting residents on their journey toward self-sufficiency.
Leading the way is our Executive Director,
who provides strategic vision and guidance for the organization.
Working closely with residents is our Case Manager,
who offers personalized support and resources to help them navigate challenges and achieve their goals.
Five dedicated Residential Aides serve as the backbone of our support system.
They embody a positive and confident presence, demonstrating sensitivity, responsibility, and compassion while interacting with our vulnerable residents. These aides are often the first point of contact for residents, providing daily support, encouragement, and guidance.
Residential Aides play a vital role in empowering our women.
They assist with essential life skills like resume writing and schedule creation, helping residents build confidence and independence.
